Biology clicked for me when I stopped trying to memorise every page of the textbook, and that experience still shapes how I tutor. I’ve worked with A-Level students for five years and tend to focus on understanding processes before worrying about exam wording. Ecology and evolution are the topics I enjoy most. I’m also a bit obsessive about graphs and experimental questions, because those are often easier marks once you know what to look for.

I’m a former laboratory researcher who moved into teaching and now specialise in A-Level Biology. I have seven years of tutoring experience, with much of my work centred on students preparing for their final examinations. Practical questions and unfamiliar experimental scenarios are a regular part of my sessions. I also spend time improving scientific vocabulary, particularly when students know the answer but are not expressing it precisely enough.

I started tutoring Biology alongside my postgraduate studies and carried on because I genuinely enjoyed the one-to-one side of teaching. Eight years later, I mainly work with A-Level students. My favourite sessions are on immunity, gene expression and biotechnology, although I’m equally happy untangling a difficult calculation. I normally ask students to explain an idea back to me in their own words before we move on to exam questions.
